Senior full-stack engineer

Salary/equity:

$130k-180k

<= 0.2%

Role/industry:

Full-stack

AI / enterprise data

Exp. floor:

5 years

Brief description

This is a roughly 50-50 split full-stack role for a company building agentic AI to interact with enterprise data. For example, their AI might reconfigure infrastructure or optimize SQL queries on the fly to reduce cloud costs. They are still a relatively small startup, but the fact that they're working with high-scale, high-reliability applications for enterprise customers means they tend to skew more towards robust engineering (as opposed to "ship an MVP ASAP" than typical startups do.

The actual job responsibilities are typical of startup full-stack roles: a mix of back-end API and integrations work and front-end UX. Neither is an afterthought here, you do need to be good at both. They also do a lot of dev tooling, most notably a VSCode extension, so familiarity with building plugins for developers is a big plus.

Culturally, they're more straight-laced and business-oriented than most startups. They have a very large amount of runway (4-5 years), a team with strong academic backgrounds (MIT, CMU), and a technical founder that was a founding member of WalmartLabs.

This role is hybrid in-office in Sunnyvale, CA (in the southern portion of the San Francisco Bay Area).

What they're looking for

[Required]

  • 5+ years of total experience

  • 2+ years with Python on the back-end (3+ strongly preferred)

  • Some experience with React on the front-end, including some work that is deployed somewhere it can be seen publicly.

  • Ill-defined, but general seniority: you should be able to build things end to end without supervision or assistance, although this role doesn't involve extensive infra responsibilities.

[Nice-to-have]

  • Experience building VSCode extensions.

  • Familiar with static analysis of SQL queries

  • Familiar with the basics of modern AI

  • Familiar with cloud infra basics (Docker, K8s)

  • Open-source contributions

What they're offering

  • Salary: $130k-180k

  • Equity: nonzero but low (<=0.2%)

  • Stability (4-5y resume, enterprise client base)

  • A focus on robust code (rare for startups)

  • Open-source contributions
