What Otherbranch is

This is the clean-plaintext version of what we do. If you want the nicer page, click here.

We're a technical recruiting firm for software engineers who want to work at startups. We're founded and operated by a team of former Triplebyte employees who liked what early Triplebyte was doing. We're trying to rebuild something like it.

How getting a job with us works

  1. Sign up and tell us what you want. You can be as specific as you like (e.g. "only places where I can use VSCode" or "only places with trans-friendly healthcare"). We will only contact you if we have something that fits your goals.

  2. Take our interview. It's 90 minutes with an engineer over a video call. No artificial leetcode: convert a plain English spec with no "gotchas" into working code, answer some conceptual questions, do a system design exercise.

  3. Skip the line. We introduce you to companies and they skip you to later stages of their process. Most companies do a culture fit call + a final interview round for our candidates.

Why use us?

Applying for jobs sucks. We'll find them for you. You will only hear from us if we have a role for you (or if we have a question that might be relevant to finding one).

We're better than other recruiters at that, too. When we recommend you to a company, they are somewhere between "extremely likely" and "certain" to move forward.

Our process reduces credentialism. Companies use lower credential bars with us, because they know we won't send them people who don't know what they're talking about. Some clients drop credential bars entirely.

Even if you fail our interview, we'll give you feedback about why. You'll have at least something to work with the next time you take one.

FAQ

What's on your interview?

Our interview is 90 minutes long and covers three sections: coding, conceptual knowledge, and system design. You can find more detail on the interview content here.

Does it cost anything?

We're completely free for engineers. For employers, we charge 20% of first years' salary on hire.

What kind of companies do you work with?

We primarily work with early-stage tech startups within the United States, although we sometimes have clients that are larger or operate elsewhere. Candidates outside of the US who don't want to move there are welcome to sign up - we won't bug you unless we have something, but it might be a while until we do.

Will you spam me?

Nope. We'll email you only if we have a job for you, if we need to follow up on your background or interests, or rarely when we have important information we think you'd want to know about. We do not do engagement email spam or "grooming" campaigns.
